D-1 Lands Hearings

Across the state, 28 million acres of BLM-managed public lands could soon be repurposed for extractive industrial development. In Bristol Bay specifically, 1.2 million acres are being evaluated for removing ANCSA D-1 protections. These vast tracts of land are public and feed Alaska Native communities, nourish incredible fish and wildlife biodiversity, and serve as massive carbon sinks for the planet.

BLM had a 60-day public comment period from 12/15/2023 - 2/14/2024 on a potential rollback of public land protections. Thanks to our Tribes, communities, and supporters, the federal government heard from over 160 concerned individuals that we want public land uses that support local communities and prioritize clean water, healthy habitat, and food security!
