Wood-Tikchik State Park Management Council Reinstated!
Gov. Dunleavy’s Executive Order (EO) 126 eliminated the Wood-Tikchik State Park Management Council (WTSPMC) on January 15, 2024.
This EO was overturned by the Alaska Legislature (38-21) on March 12, 2024!
The WTCPMC was created 46 years ago in 1978 and has management authority over 1.6 million acres, the largest state park in the US. The intention of the park was to protect the area’s fish and wildlife resources and preserve subsistence and recreational activities in the park.
The WTSPMC is a shining example of local people managing our resources effectively long-term and UTBB is grateful for our state legislature for recognizing the importance of the council to protecting our lands and waters and our ways of life.
